For more than 50 years, the Social Development Commission (SDC) has served as a planner, coordinator, and provider of human service programs for low-income individuals and families in Milwaukee County.

Our Mission: Empowering Milwaukee County residents with the resources to move beyond poverty.

With assistance from Forward Community Investments, SD Properties was able to secure two new buildings on behalf of the Social Development Commission. Today, our headquarters is a contemporary, state-of the-art building equipped with classrooms, meeting space and room to grow. Our new location puts us in one of Milwaukee’s poorest communities. Blocks from the freeway, and on major bus lines, we are accessible to people who need our services the most.

Forward Community Investments embraced our vision for a better future. This helped SDC increase outreach and empower Milwaukee County’s low-income residents. Our diverse services include: job training, education, mental health and family counseling, residential services and support for senior citizens. We believe this investment reflects your “stepping forward fearlessly” philosophy. As a catalytic presence in the North Avenue commercial corridor, SDC is now able to strategically impact poverty from within the community we serve. While some businesses and organizations have moved out of this area, we intentionally and “fearlessly” moved in.

Our SDC/FCI partnership is improving the urban landscape in the historic Lindsay Heights neighborhood. As we continue to beautify our space, people can see something exciting is happening here. Our leadership and presence in this community helps fuel the development and growth transforming this area. Our impact, and yours, will benefit the community and region for years to come.
