Position Overview/Summary:
The Credit Analyst role plays a vital role in fueling the growth of our portfolio through community/mission-based loans. The Credit Analyst works directly with and supports the Senior Community Lenders and Portfolio Manager to drive loan portfolio growth while also manage risk to the organization through ongoing loan and borrower monitoring. This is accomplished through thorough and thoughtful underwriting coupled with ongoing touch points with borrowers throughout the term of their loan. To be successful in this role, the applicant should have strong quantitative skills and be comfortable interfacing with external borrowers and FCI Loan Committee members.
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Role & Responsibilities:
Underwriting & Risk Analysis:
- Support Senior Community Lenders through loan application process, including financial analysis (financial spreading), credit assessment, and loan structuring for operating business and real estate transactions
- Collaborate with Senior Community lenders on final Loan Committee decision papers for credit approval
- Support Senior Community Lenders during approval process and be available to answer questions during Loan Committee discussion
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality when handling sensitive and/or confidential information.
Relationship Management & Ongoing Monitoring:
- Maintain ongoing and proactive communication with borrowers to ensure satisfaction of reporting requirements and loan covenants including collecting and analyzing annual financial statements and tracking common financial ratios for loan matriculation
- Partner with Portfolio Manager to ensure timely and accurate portfolio reporting to FCI senior management
Community Engagement:
- Represent FCI by actively participating in community events, workshops, and networking opportunities to establish a strong presence in community
- Partner with local, public, and private organizations to advocate for community development initiatives promoting financial literacy and education within the community to empower residents and business owners
Key Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field plus a minimum of 2 years of related experience in commercial or community underwriting and credit analysis OR associate’s degree in finance, business administration or a related field plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience in commercial or community underwriting and credit analysis
- Proficient with Salesforce software and Microsoft suite of programs
- A motivated self-starter with proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally
- Strong understanding of finance principles, business acumen and risk measurement to assess potential investments, operations, and conflicts of interest
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, ability to deal with ambiguity and changing priorities based on deployment and funding requirements
- Understanding of community development, economic trends, and assessing local market dynamics
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to consistently communicate at a high level with prospective and current borrowers
- Proven ability to successfully present financial information in board and committee settings
- Commitment to community service and a passion for making a positive impact
- Ability to travel, maintain vehicle insurance, and a valid driver’s license are required
- Flexibility to occasionally work evening and weekend hours as necessary
Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary work, exerting up to 25 lbs of force occasionally or a negligible amount.
Physical Activity: Primarily working sitting with occasional standing, walking; frequent reaching, typing; talking – speaking clearly; hearing; and seeing.
Work/Environment: Moderate noise level consistent with an office environment. Travel within Wisconsin and other states as required for meetings, events, etc.
Personal/Psychological: Interaction with people, working around people, delegating work, and holding oneself and others accountable for meeting deadlines and finishing work, planning of activities, making judgments on a regular basis, frequent changes in duties and volume of work, intra-organizational and client communication.
