Where there was once a long-closed Blockbuster Video store, a Fox Valley health care organization now operates a dental clinic that happily serves Medicaid patients and other under served clientele.
Challenge
The Appleton-based Partnership Community Health Center has been providing health services to lower-income individuals and families in the Fox Valley area since 1997, when it first opened as a free clinic called Fox Cities Community Health Center. By 2009 PCHC was offering a range of services, including primary care and behavioral health at clinics in Appleton and Menasha, as well as a dental clinic, also located in Appleton. Recognizing a shortage of dental clinics in the area willing to accept Medicaid patients, PCHC began investigating opportunities to open a new clinic in Oshkosh.
Action
Finding a suitable location, they turned to FCI for financing. FCI financed $722,000 of the $760,000 needed for the new location.
Impact
Before the Oshkosh clinic opened, there was a three week wait for scheduling dentist appointments at PCHC’s Appleton clinic. For people in Oshkosh, transportation was a major barrier. The new Oshkosh dental clinic is filling a big gap in the area. PCHC’s new clinic is also be accessible to individuals with disabilities thanks to a special operatory designed to accommodate wheelchairs.
