Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an annual celebration that honors the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the most influential figures of the American civil rights movement. His dream of a just and equal society resonates through the years, inspiring individuals and organizations alike to contribute to the ongoing fight for equality. By providing financial resources, technical assistance, and strategic support to organizations working toward positive social change, FCI aligns itself with Dr. King’s principles and aspirations to address economic disparities and foster community development.
Honoring a Legacy
Dr. King dedicated his life to the pursuit of civil rights, advocating for racial equality, economic justice, and the end of systemic discrimination. His famous “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered during the 1963 March on Washington, remains a powerful reminder of his vision for a nation free from the shackles of prejudice and injustice. As we celebrate what would have been Dr. King’s 95th birthday, it is crucial to reflect on the progress made and recognize the work still ahead to fully realize King’s dream.

As Dr. King once wisely said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” At FCI, silence is not an option. We will continue to have conversations about racial and socioeconomic disparities and put our capital and resources to work for racial justice. This work takes perseverance and courage, and we can’t do it alone. There are many ways you can support FCI in our mission to impact communities:
Educate and advocate: Take the opportunity on Martin Luther King Day to educate others about the ongoing struggles for equality and justice. Advocate for policies and practices that promote inclusivity and fairness.
Promote economic equality: Explore ways to support economic equality in your community. Whether through support for local businesses, advocating for affordable housing, or engaging in initiatives that create job opportunities, your actions can contribute to a more just society.
Support FCI’s initiatives: Stay in the know with our newsletter, apply for grant opportunities, or consider making an investment in or donation to FCI. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference in advancing economic and social justice within communities.
Last year, FCI made a significant positive impact on the lives of numerous individuals and families throughout Wisconsin:
- $9.7 million in new loans, closed and committed to 20 borrowers
- FCI funding currently supports projects in 18 Wisconsin counties
- $35.1 million in New Market Tax Credits supporting four projects across Wisconsin
