A single community investment with Forward Community Investments has the potential to grow exponentially. One thousand dollars today can reach multiple organizations and thousands of people. That's because we convert community investments into low-interest loans for Wisconsin nonprofits. As the initial loan is repaid, the money and its interest are recycled into loans for other nonprofit organizations.

Community Investing with FCI

Many people incorporate their values into their everyday lives through work, community, family, friends and faith. But, when it comes to money – specifically, investing – it's historically been difficult to make the connection between money and values. But, there is a way. Community investing provides socially-minded investors with the opportunity to align money and values to create social impact. At its core, community investing is about transforming social and economic conditions and creating opportunities for people to align their values with their investments. It's about putting investment capital to work towards the creation of a more just, sustainable, and healthy society.

Since 1994, we have been connecting socially-minded individuals and businesses interested in investing in their communities with carefully-selected nonprofits focusing on affordable housing, job creation, economic development and basic social services. By raising private investment dollars and leveraging them into loans for mission-based projects, we connect and engage investors interested in having their money work in and for their community.

As proof of our success, we've lent more than $25 million in our 18-year history and, with loan losses totaling less than $100,000, our loan repayment history is close to 100%. We attribute much of that success to our commitment to making good loans – good for our investors, good for the nonprofit and good for the community.

For community investors, they get to see their money doing good in the community while earning a financial return on their investment. It's about finding the double bottom line where values and economic goals intersect.

Our below-market rate, flexible-term loans are made possible by a diverse group of investors that includes:

  • Individuals
  • Banks and credit unions
  • Foundations
  • Government
  • Religious Institutions
  • Corporations
