There has been a debate in the field of community development between those who conduct traditional needs assessments, and those who think that a focus on “needs” portrays people as having deficiencies and they instead believe we should only focus on people’s “assets” or “gifts.”  This presentation will show that both standpoints have the same weaknesses.  In their place you will learn an “issues” approach to community development that corrects for those weaknesses.
