Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative Information Technology Network (RWHC ITN)

FCI provided RWHC ITN with a $1 million loan as the last piece of financing needed to develop and implement a shared health record system that, today, serves Wisconsin’s rural, nonprofit hospitals. The project enabled better patient care, reduced costs and improved the capacity of hospitals and providers in the network.

RWHC ITN provides access to state-of-the-art electronic health record management to rural nonprofit hospitals and affiliated physicians. Communities in Vernon, Monroe, Juneau, Sauk, Richland, Grant and Lafayette counties benefit from reduced technology costs, improved service quality and enhanced patient safety.

FCI made a loan to RWHC ITN to implement a collaborative hospital information and integrated record system that included a suite of financial, clinical, and physician practice applications. In addition the project included the development of a centralized data center and shared technology support services.

The project helped to improve the quality of care and efficiency of health records management in rural hospitals by providing:

• Unified, integrated information to make better decisions about patient care
• Enhanced patient care that includes the avoidance of medication errors
• Technology support to ensure appropriate use of electronic health records

This project drew from a rich tradition of regional collaboration among Wisconsin’s rural hospitals. The technology network promotes patience safety in rural communities while containing costs and improving organizational efficiency.
