Central Wisconsin Community Action Council (CWAC)

webCWCACFCI provided $278,000 in loan refinancing that allowed CWCAC to make improvements and renovate affordable housing in Wyocena, WI. This project improved the living conditions of residents and ensured the availability of a low-cost living option in this rural community with a population of 768 residents (2010 US Census data).

Financing from Forward Community Investments allows us to make a greater impact on low-income and no-income families in Wisconsin.” – Fred Hebert, Central Wisconsin Community Action Council

CWCAC provides housing, employment and homeless aid to people in Adams, Columbia, Juneau, Sauk, Dodge and Waushara Counties. Each year they serve more than 300 households, including almost 500 adults and 360 children.

Wyona Lake Apartments is a 16-unit, single story building built in 1979. Financing allowed CWCAC to take ownership of the building and make a myriad of needed renovations for its community of low- to moderate-income residents. The renovations improved the standard of living for residents and included:

  • New roofing and insulation to lower heating costs during winter months
  • Upgraded mechanicals to increase operating efficiency
  • Updated appliances in each apartment
  • Replacement furniture in the community room that created a comfortable look and feel for residents

As the only affordable housing option in Wyocena, the project was an opportunity to make a long-term commitment to disadvantaged individuals in the community and raise standards for affordable housing in rural Wisconsin.
